have you ever awoke to your family home ablaze? the night was june 9, 2000. the clock showed 3:31 am. i was mad cozy but unusually hot this particular night. we all reserved to our rooms except for my sister. this night she slept in our mom’s room at the foot of her bed. hours later i started tossing and turning. then from my bed in my room i was awaken and could see what resembled a mushroom ball of fire. i knew immediately that this was my waking reality and our family home was on fire. i frantically rushed to my moms room shouting “fire! fire! fire!” as i was jumping my knees seemed as if they were touching my chest. my mom awoke and i continued shouting “fire!” as she was walking out of my room she could finally see what i saw. the hallway was dark from all of the smoke. we walked out of our family home from my moms room through her sliding glass door. but not before i called 911 on my way out. still continuously shouting “fire! fire! fire!” the operator asked what’s the address? that was the first time my words were different as i shouted our address and to hurry! it took less than 5 minutes for the city of riverside fire engine number 4 to arrive to our home. but it seemed like a lifetime. what i remember most from the moments of seeing our family home ablaze. was how entrancing and welcoming the fire seemed to be as it was bursting out our front windows. my music has a lot of meaning. it’s a raw collection of my life experiences. those moments from that night was the inspiration behind thrives fire intro on babylon boys: attacking the shystem.
